General civil law

Civil law governs the legal relationships between individuals (natural persons) and entities (legal persons). The classic areas of civil law include inheritance law, property law and tort law.

Property law governs rights in rem. In everyday life, it is most often used to regulate property rights in real estate. Inheritance law governs the transfer of property to a deceased person’s heirs after his or her death. In Slovenia, an heir is entitled to inherit by way of testamentary (last will) succession or intestate succession; in case of competition of both titles a succession by last will prevails. Tort law covers damage compensation due to the acts of another person, for example in the event of accidents or injuries.
